MCE Mail consists of two parts:

 

Setting up MCE Mail

Before you can read and write e-mails, you have to configure MCE Mail first.
You can do this by pressing the Windows Start button, surfing to the menu Accessories / Media Center and clicking the icon called "MCE Mail Server".

Then a small icon appears in the system tray of the Windows taskbar:

When you double click this icon, the configuration window of MCE Mail will appear:

In this window you see an overview of the configuration.

The first thing you can do here is configure the general settings:

  • The interval at which the e-mail should be retrieved from the server(s)
  • The name of the soundfile which should be played when new e-mail is received

Press the "Apply" button for saving the changes you make in this part of the configuration.
 

Use the buttons in the toolbar to edit the other parts of the configuration:

Press this button to save the configuration.
Use this button to add a new user.
Define a user for each person who want to read and write e-mail within MCE.

When you press this button, you'll see the following:

Here you can specify the following parameters of the selected user:

  • The name of the user
  • The filename of the image which represents the user
Press this button to remove the selected user from the configuration.
By pressing this button, you can add an account for receiving e-mails for the selected user.

When you press this button, you'll see the following:

Here you can specify the following parameters of the selected account:

  • The name or address of the mail server (this must be a POP3 server)
  • The username for logging onto the POP3 server
  • The password  for logging onto the POP3 server

When you press the "Apply" button, the application will try to logon to the POP3 server, using the parameters you entered.

Use this button to add an account for sending e-mails for the selected user.

When you press this button, you'll see the following:

Here you can specify the following parameters of the selected account:

  • The name or address of the mail server (this must be an SMTP server)
  • The username for logging onto the SMTP server
  • The password  for logging onto the SMTP server
  • The e-mail address of the seslected user
     (replies to e-mails the user sends will be returned to this address)

When you press the "Apply" button, the application will try to send a test message via the SMTP server, using the parameters you entered.

Press this button to remove the selected account from the configuration.

 

Reading and write e-mails

With MCE Mail you can read and write e-mails within the Media Center application.
To do so, you should:

  • go to the Start page of MCE
  • select the "More programs" option
  • and click the program called "E-Mail"


This will open the following page:

Use this page to select the user whose e-mail you want to read.

Once you've selected the user, you'll see an overview of the mail of this user:

Select the e-mail you want to read and press the "OK" button on your remote control.

Now you can read the e-mail:

Use the buttons on the left side of this page to reply to the message, to forward or delete it, or to return to the previous page.

If you for example press the "Reply" button, you'll see the page that can be used to send e-mails:

In this page you can:

  • Enter the e-mail address of the recipients of the e-mail;
    separate multiple e-mail addresses in this field with a semicolon (;)
  • Enter the e-mail address of the recipients that will receive a carbon copy;
    separate multiple e-mail addresses in this field with a semicolon (;)
  • Enter the subject of the message
  • And enter the actual message text

You should use a regular keyboard for entering this information.
Use the arrow keys to move the focus around on the screen. When the focus is in a textbox, the focus will only be moved to another textbox or button when you're at the beginning or end of its contents.
When you press the F12 button, the focus will be moved to the "Send" button.
